Jonas Erik Altberg, often known as Basshunter, is a Swedish musician and songwriter well renowned for his exceptional DJ skills and the creation of the Dota 2 “anthem”. Although Basshunter published numerous albums and songs over the course of his two-decade career, his most successful DotA song, “Basshunter DotA,” continues to be his most listened-to tune, with 69 million views in 2023.
These are the legendary choruses of the Basshunter DotA song, which all old-school DotA gamers enjoy. Basshunter’s official song video, which went viral on YouTube and in several European singles charts, was released seventeen years ago.
Basshunter Dota Lyrics: Swedish & English
Jonas recorded the lyrics in Swedish, and here’s a summarized translation of what the song is really about. The song is about playing DotA (spoiler alert). More specifically, the chorus line of Basshunter DotA previously translates as: “We’re sitting here on vent and playing a little DotA.”
The other catchy lyrics are about the game’s progression, similar to how a regular pundit would speak throughout a match. For example, playing and running around, pushing (lanes), owning the game, and playing with the opponents.
In addition, there is the occasional artificial voice providing English callouts and actual DotA hero lines.

Why Are Basshunter Dota Lyrics So Addictive?
To be honest, for DotA aficionados, the Basshunter Dota lyrics are nostalgic. Its iconic, techno theme is also a significant role in making it an addicting song for DotA lovers. Perhaps we never had an official DotA song released by Valve, but this was the closest thing to having a relevant candidate for official Dota music.
Where Is Basshunter Today?
Basshunter is still an active artist, however he hasn’t created many new DotA songs.
He was recently featured in a promotional trailer for Netflix’s DOTA anime, Dragon’s Blood. In 2021, Netflix produced a video named Basshunter Dota Revival, in which Jonas himself appeared. He sang the original Dota song and played Dota 2, as the video revealed images from the upcoming DOTA anime.

Basshunter Dota at The Ceremony
Maybe there’s one more wish to check off the bucket list. Valve has established an International championship tradition of opening ceremonies involving DotA-themed acts or popular musicians.
While most TIs deliver outstanding performances, none could possibly match the International 10 opening ceremony. That year, another classic Dota 2 meme music, Darude’s Sandstorm, was played.
Now that Sandstorm has made it onto the TI Ceremony, the next major thing would be to have Basshunter – DotA perform at the International 12. However, we won’t have great expectations because we didn’t get a featured artist performance at last year’s International. Nevertheless…Let’s get it going.
