Pokemon Fan Art Shows Two Imagined Mega Evolutions for Marowak, Sparking Fan Excitement

A creative Pokémon fan has impressed the online community by designing not one, but two imagined Mega Evolutions for Marowak.

The art was posted on Reddit and quickly gained attention for its creativity, emotional storytelling, and clever references to Marowak’s deep lore.

Mega Evolutions were first introduced in Generation 6 of the Pokémon games and became one of the most loved mechanics in the franchise.

Although many fan-favorite Pokémon from Kanto have already received their Mega forms, Marowak has yet to be officially included in that list. Still, fans haven’t forgotten it.

Marowak starts as a Cubone, known for its sad story about wearing its mother’s skull. As it evolves into Marowak, the creature becomes stronger and more determined.

In the Alola region, it even gains a regional form, changing from Ground-type to Fire/Ghost-type when Cubone evolves at night. This form already gives Marowak a haunting presence, but fans think there’s more potential to explore.

That’s where this fan art comes in. Reddit user LapiSan_Laboratory shared two striking Mega Evolution designs created by artist BadaFra. The art was posted in the popular Pokémon subreddit, where it quickly got praise for its emotional and visual depth.

Mega Marowak X and Y: Two Different Sides of the Same Pokémon

The fan art showcases Mega Marowak X as a pure Ground-type, but with a unique twist. In this version, Marowak no longer wears its skull.

Instead, a small Cubone sits on its head and fights alongside it, just like Mega Kangaskhan battles with its baby. It gives off a strong family bond vibe while still staying true to the Pokémon’s original theme.

The second version, Mega Marowak Y, dives deeper into the emotional story of Marowak’s past.

This form is a Ground/Ghost-type, and it features the Pokémon with teary eyes, holding only half of its usual bone club.

The other half is held by the ghostly image of its deceased mother, showing their powerful bond even beyond death. This form even has a special ability called Parental Bond, which strengthens its connection with the spirit of its mother.

Fans on Reddit especially loved the Y version for its emotional storytelling and design. Some called it bittersweet, while others said it gave them goosebumps. Many were moved by how the art honored the backstory of Cubone and Marowak without overcomplicating it.

Not the First Time Marowak Inspired Mega Art

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time fans have imagined Mega Evolutions for Marowak. In the past, another artist gave the Pokémon a prehistoric-themed Mega form, complete with bone armor and a more intimidating skull.

These types of fan creations show how beloved Marowak is, even without an official Mega Evolution.

As for the artist BadaFra, they’re no stranger to Pokémon fan art. They have also shared Mega Evolution concepts for Gengar, which were equally well-received. Their attention to lore and detail makes their artwork stand out.

Could This Become Reality?

With Pokémon Legends: Z-A set to release on October 16, and Mega Evolutions confirmed to return, some fans are now wondering—could Marowak finally get an official Mega Evolution? While nothing has been confirmed yet, this fan art has sparked fresh excitement.

Whether or not Game Freak brings this idea to life, one thing is clear: fans love Marowak, and they’re ready to see more of its story told in creative new ways.
