Since its release in January 2024, Enshrouded has been a hit with players. Now, it’s back with a major update in early access called Souls of the Frozen Frontier.

This update adds a new area, a new crafting tier, dynamic weather, and many other exciting features.

Explore the Albaneve Summits

The Albaneve Summits is the latest area added to Enshrouded, expanding the game world north of Embervale with a vast mountain biome. This region, located beyond the Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes, is challenging, filled with icy lakes, dangerous rivers, and formidable enemies.

Players can use aerial updrafts to extend flights and gain height while exploring to move through this new area. Across the Summits, there are also new Shroud roots, friendly wildlife, and quests that delve into Embervale’s dark history.

The update also includes the first version of Enshrouded’s dynamic weather system. Weather in Embervale now changes naturally, adding to the game’s realism. Snowfall and freezing temperatures can affect your warmth, so you’ll need to find shelter or craft campfires to stay warm. This weather element adds a fresh level of danger to the world of Embervale.

Crafting and Survival Updates

To survive in this harsh environment, players need stronger gear. Souls of the Frozen Frontier introduces a new crafting tier for high-level items and raises the maximum level to 35. The Albaneve Summits are rich in rare resources that players can use to craft powerful equipment.

Additionally, new armor sets come with unique spells, skills, and perks for different classes and subclasses, giving players more options for their character builds.

Updated Townsfolk and Wildlife

The update also brings new survivors scattered across the land who can join your settlement. Each character has a backstory and quests that players can unlock. These townsfolk now have more realistic behaviors—they’ll sleep in beds at night, wander around, and interact with the player.

Players can also assign assistants to secondary bases, which allows them to craft outside of their main base. New pets and wildlife have been introduced as well. These animals can be tamed in the wild and brought back to base to produce valuable resources—if you take good care of them!

Quality of Life Improvements

Souls of the Frozen Frontier includes several quality-of-life updates, such as an option to adjust the text size for better readability and the ability to pause in single-player mode.

There are also many minor combat tweaks and bug fixes, all detailed in the official announcement on Steam.
