Epic Games has revealed that Fortnite battle passes will no longer be exclusive, which is a startling move. Every season that had a battle pass had skins that vanished forever at the conclusion of the season. Even “returning” skins like Omega just reappeared in a completely different form.

That will no longer be the case. Battle passes will continue to be sold going forward, but if you miss out, you can probably still obtain the skins later.

Battle Pass in Fortnite to Undergo Major Shift

One significant change is that Fortnite battle passes are no longer exclusive. Every pass was exclusive and advertised as such for all 30 seasons.

To obtain skins such as Carbide, Ice King, Midas, Iron Man, The Mandalorian, Aquaman, Rick Sanchez, The Foundation, Indiana Jones, Peter Griffin, Oscar, Zeus, or T-60 Power Armor, players had to spend 950 V-Bucks. They would have to lock those skins forever if they hadn’t. That will not be the case in the future.

When they unintentionally brought the Paradigm back to the Item Shop, Epic verified this. They disclosed that they will be launching a new variation and that this was not their objective.

It was revealed by leakers that Epic intended to use this strategy going forward for all battle pass skins. At some point, all of them will be for sale. Players still have an incentive to obtain the passes while they are active, though.

The skins won’t be brought back for at least a year and a half, to start. Skins will be added to the shop after 18 months.

They will also be more expensive. In the season, players can purchase eight or so skins for 950 V-Bucks, or when they return in 18 months, they can purchase skins for 1,200–2,000 V-Bucks each.

It’s also uncertain if they will be returning with all of their cosmetics. All of the goodies included in the Fortnite battle pass might or might not be awarded to them.

The most important thing to understand about this is that it’s progressing. Epic is not releasing Battle Pass skins in retrospect. Skins won’t be exclusive starting with the Chapter 5 Season 4 battle pass. For instance, the Chapter 3 Season 1 battle pass will stay that way.
