How to Unlock and Craft the Buggy in Dune Awakening — And Why You Should Do It Now?

In Dune: Awakening, players constantly gather resources, upgrade gear, and try to survive the harsh desert world.

But moving around and hauling heavy materials can be a real pain, especially when your backpack fills up fast. That’s where the Buggy comes in.

The Buggy may not be the fastest ride, but when it comes to carrying huge loads and mining resources, it’s a total game-changer.

Let’s break down how to get your hands on one, how to build it, and whether it’s worth your time and resources.

What is a Buggy in Dune: Awakening?

The Buggy is a land-based vehicle designed for mining and hauling large amounts of materials. While it’s slower than the Sandbike or Ornithopter, it offers an incredible 1,500V storage capacity—much more than the standard 175V a backpack holds.

That means fewer trips back to base and more time collecting valuable resources.

How to Unlock the Buggy?

To unlock and craft a Buggy in Dune: Awakening, you need to reach the Steel Tier in Research. Once you’re there, you can use Intel points to unlock these blueprints:

  • Buggy Rear
  • Buggy Chassis
  • Buggy Hull
  • Buggy Engine
  • Buggy PSU
  • Buggy Tread
  • Buggy Storage (Optional)
  • Buggy Cutteray (Optional)
  • Buggy Utility Rear (Optional)
  • Buggy Booster (Optional)

Each part is crafted separately using various materials.

First, Build a Vehicle Fabricator

Before making any Buggy parts, you’ll need a Vehicle Fabricator, which is the machine used to craft vehicles. You can unlock this through Research as well. Here’s what you need to build one:

  • Steel Ingots x40: Made by combining Iron Ingots, Carbon Ore, and Water at a Small Ore Refinery.
  • Complex Machinery x30: Found in special locations like the Vermillius Gap.
  • All unlocked Buggy Mk3 Components

Total Resources Required for Buggy Mk3

Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll need to fully build the Buggy Mk3:

ResourceQuantity
Water1390
Steel Ingot240
Advanced Servoks122
Cobalt Paste120
Particle Capacitor75
Holtzman Actuator23
Armor Plating26

Each Buggy component, like the Hull, Engine, Tread, and Storage, uses different amounts of these items.

Optional Parts: Storage, Cutteray & More

While not required, you can add Storage Mk3, Cutteray Mk3, and Utility Rear Mk3 to make your Buggy more powerful and useful for mining. Here’s a quick look at what they need:

  • Buggy Storage Mk3: 200 Water, 30 Steel Ingots, 12 Advanced Servoks, 9 Cobalt Paste
  • Buggy Cutteray Mk3: 200 Water, 30 Steel Ingots, 25 Particle Capacitors, 17 Cobalt Paste, 23 Holtzman Actuator
  • Utility Rear Mk3: 135 Water, 30 Steel Ingots, 20 Advanced Servoks, 13 Cobalt Paste, 13 Armor Plating

Can You Get a Buggy for Free?

Yes! You can find a free Buggy in the open world at certain spots. Here are three confirmed locations:

  • Southern Comms (Eastern Shield Wall)
  • Sentinel City (Eastern Shield Wall)
  • Khidr’s Shadow (Jabal Eifrit Al-Janub)

These are usually Junk Buggies with damaged parts. You can’t fully repair them, and they don’t come with storage or mining tools, but they’re good for getting started.

Also, these Buggies respawn in the same places, so you can keep going back for more if needed.

Can Solo Players Use the Buggy?

Yes, solo players can use the Buggy. You just have to manually switch between the driver’s seat and the turret seat to mine.

Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold the F (Interaction Key).
  2. Use the radial menu to switch between seats.

It’s not as fast as having a teammate help you, but it’s completely doable.

Just a heads-up: Buggy Cutteray Mk3 cannot mine Aluminum. For that, you’ll need to unlock and use a Cutteray Mk4.

Is It Worth Getting the Buggy?

In short, yes.

If you’re serious about mining and base-building, the Buggy is one of the best tools in the game. It’s a huge upgrade over making repeated trips with just your backpack. It also speeds up the collection of heavy ores like Iron and Aluminum.

Here’s why the Buggy is worth it:

  • Massive Storage (1500v): Let’s you haul much more material in one trip
  • Better Mining Power: The Cutteray mines ore faster than handheld tools
  • Customizable Modules: You can add storage, mining tools, or utility features
  • Reliable for Solo or Group Play: Works even if you’re playing alone

Skipping the Buggy to go straight for an Ornithopter might sound tempting, but once you hit higher-tier items, the material grind increases fast. Without the Buggy, mining and hauling will feel slow and inefficient.

Summary

The Buggy might not be the flashiest vehicle in Dune: Awakening, but it’s easily one of the most practical and powerful when it comes to getting things done.

Whether you’re a solo explorer or part of a squad, building a Buggy will save you time, resources, and energy.
