If you’re playing Dune Awakening and looking for the Second Trial of Aql, you’ll need to head to the eastern side of Vermillius Gap, just north of the Hagga Basin’s starting area.
However, don’t expect this location to show up on your map immediately. It only becomes visible once you’re very close, or if you use the Survey Probe Launcher to reveal the area.
Why This Trial Matters?
This second trial is a straightforward one and primarily serves as a tutorial for using a tool called the Compactor.
Once you complete this trial, the Compactor becomes available to you. You’ll need it to harvest Flour Sand, which is important in the game for crafting items like Silicone Blocks.
Some other recipes also use Flour Sand. To process it, you’ll have to use a Chemical Refinery.
Step-by-Step Guide to the Location

The actual location is in a cave known as Deep Struggle, which is in the Eastern Vermillius Gap.
To reach it:
- Start at the Wreck of Alcyon
- Head north across the desert to a place called Scav’s Hope
- Then continue northeast around the mountain
Alternatively, you can:
- Start from the southeast Ironworks
- Head just slightly north
If you’re having trouble finding the entrance, climb to a high point in the area and launch a Survey Probe. This will help reveal a large portion of the surrounding region on your map.
Summary
Dune’s world is large and sometimes confusing. But with the right tools and some guidance, you can find hidden trials like this and unlock helpful equipment like the Compactor to improve your gameplay experience.
