Exploring Drake and Sullivan’s Backstory
Deadline reports that the movie has been “redrafted as a prequel to the treasure-hunting action storyline in the Naughty Dog video game for PlayStation.” The film, they continue, is based on a scene from the third computer game that was “centered around the young thief Drake and his initial meeting with the professional outlaw, Sullivan.”
This is not the direction I was anticipating this movie to take! It seems that Tom Rothman, the head of Sony Pictures, was so fond of the most recent version of Spider-Man: Homecoming that he wanted to restructure Uncharted to center on Tom Holland.
Several writers, directors, and actors have tried their hand at this Uncharted movie idea throughout the years, but none of them have been able to make the film come together. It appears that they are prepared to move the movie along with this revised interpretation of the narrative and characters.
A Rising Star Poised to Embrace the Role of Nathan Drake
Right now, Sony Pictures is looking for a writer to start work on a screenplay and story. I think Holland’s filmography is fantastic. I adore him as Spider-Man, but he was also excellent in the true-story adventure picture The Lost City of Z, in which he recently co-starred. It’s not difficult to picture him as a young Nathan Drake after witnessing that. I do not doubt that he will be fantastic in the part, and one that will allow him to develop throughout several movies. All I can hope for is that they can write a compelling narrative around him.
The producers of Uncharted are Ari Arad, Alex Gartner, Charles Roven, and Avi Arad. How does everyone feel about Holland portraying a young Nathan Drake?
