Does Nintendo Care About Metroid?

The Pains of Being a Metroid Fan

I am close to giving up hope.

It has been 13 years since Metroid Prime 3 Corruption was released on the Nintendo Wii. Not only does that make me feel ancient but it also leaves me wondering if Nintendo still cares about Metroid. Sure, we had Other M in 2010 and Samus Returns on the 3DS in 2017. While one of those games was exceptional, the Other Massively disappointed players. Now, all we have for the future of Metroid is a smokey blue logo.

Rumors have plagued Twitter timelines and other corners of the internet of a Metroid Prime Trilogy port to the Nintendo Switch. Those rumors have come and gone, like multiple Blood Moon prophecies before. Whenever a new rumor pops up, I find myself shrugging it off. I am done getting my hopes up about what might be. I have hoped too much and have been let down.

I have come to terms that we may never see a new Metroid for a long, long time.

But then Nintendo announced their Super Mario 3D All Stars collection for Mario’s 35th anniversary. Super Mario Galaxy is a Wii game and is utilizes motion controls. If Nintendo is porting a Wii Mario game to the Switch with motion controls, then that means it can be done. If it can be done, then there’s a possibility. If there’s a possibility, there’s a chance. If there’s a chance, then…

I know Nintendo has Retro Studios working on Metroid Prime 4. But I will admit that the gap between the last game and this one is becoming a true test of patience. I think Nintendo still cares about Metroid. But while we wait, could they hurry up and port the Metroid Prime Trilogy? I need my fix!
