Cyberpunk 2077 Is Rated M For Some Wild Reasons

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most anticipated games of 2020. Set in a futuristic utopia undergirded by shady deals, gangs, and the allure of becoming the perfect you through augmentations, the game boasts an imaginative setting in Night City. Developed by CD Projekt Red, the studio behind the renowned Witcher 3, the game is set to release this year on Sept. 17. Today, the ESRB rating summary was released for the game and it revealed some interesting aspects of the game.

In brief, Cyberpunk 2077 is rated M for:

  • Blood and Gore
  • Intense Violence
  • Nudity
  • Strong Language
  • Strong Sexual Content
  • Use of Drugs and Alcohol

The rating summary cites things such as “During one quest, players assist a character by hammering nails through his hands and feet; screaming sounds and blood effects accompany the scene“, “customization can include depictions of breasts, buttocks, and genitalia, as well as various sizes and combinations of genitals“, “these brief sex scenes (from a first-person perspective) depict partially nude characters moaning suggestively while moving through various positions“, and “The words “f**k” and “c*nt” appear in the dialogue“.

While some of this is typical fare of M-rated games, a few of the other things are stand-out and have left some feeling a bit disturbed by its inclusion. While it fits the tone of Night City and its laissez-faire culture, we want to hear from you, Dear Reader.
